A Worldwide Broadcast Interview with Gustave Nouel

Reported by Marlon Reina.

The Aruban painter Gustave Nouel is participating in the exhibition Around Orange, which started in the Central Library in Groningen.  The General Association of Groningen Orange Nassau is honoring the 30th year anniversary celebration of Queen Beatrix as her being the monarch of the Dutch Kingdom.  In regard to this special celebration, Nouel decided to make a Royal Anniversary Calendar which is a collaboration of several paintings about the Queen.
The exhibition was opened with the Dutch national anthem being performed.   The plan is that this exposition will travel around in the Kingdom of the Netherlands.   Art Promotion International would like to show the exposition in Aruba, Bonaire, Curacao and St. Martin, “we are optimistic”.  The Dutch Ministry of Defense wants to lend a helping hand.

Honored

The paintings of Nouel have been brought together in a very special anniversary calendar titled, Monarchs of Orange.  The painter received the first printed copy of the calendar from the vice-president of the Orange Association.  He states that he was greatly honored.
Although Nouel seems to be a royalist now, this was not always the case.  "In my early youth in Aruba, I thought it was strange that my mother and so many people in Aruba were Dutch royalist."  A meeting with Queen Beatrix during her state visit to Spain, where Nouel was studying, changed his mind.

Timeless

Not too much has changed in Aruba about royalists, and the Queen’s Birthday continues to be celebrated exuberantly.  “She is quite loved by the Aruban people".  Nouel was glad to participate in the anniversary calendar and states "this Birthday Calendar is timeless, just like art is timeless".  Moreover, he did not want this anniversary of the Queen to pass without a special memory.  In regard to the succession of Beatrix, Nouel is very optimistic, "I think that Willem-Alexander and Maxima will form a great team in the future of the Dutch Kingdom".
